“I’m a Walking Miracle!”

My Story

•  January 14, 2014, started out like any other Tuesday. I had taken that morning off for a job interview. It was a busy morning getting my boys ready to go to school. After dropping them off, I went to my job interview. I had to drive down a local interstate where the speed limit is 65mph. While traveling down the expressway, a 3-foot-tall green trash can fell out of the back of a truck in front of me. I had to take evasive action and swerved off the road to avoid it. When I tried to correct myself and come back onto the road, I was struck broadside by a trash truck. The driver said he never hit the brakes. What followed was ugly.
• After the accident, I was diagnosed with an “Extremely Severe Traumatic Brain Injury and Diffuse Axonal Injury.” Normally, 90% of those who suffer a DAI never regain consciousness. Basically, I’m a walking miracle! I was in a coma for about thirty-two days. I slowly woke up and had extremely low expectations for recovery. After my accident, I really felt alone because no one explained to me what had happened. I had amnesia, so I was at everyone else’s mercy when it came to understanding the incident.
• In every sense of the word, I felt alone. But I did remember that in the Bible, it says many times how Jesus loves us and how He is our best friend. Well, I put Him to the test because he knew EVERYTHING I had been through, and during that time, He really became my best friend. I talked to Him about everything, and He pointed me to different places in His Word to bring me comfort and peace. I went through this entire ordeal with quiet confidence—a confidence that came from KNOWING the very CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE. He revealed Himself to me like He never had before, and for that, I’m so grateful. Today, I’m in the best shape of my life and suffer from only a few disabilities that are mostly invisible. I give God all the glory for enabling me to recover and live a full life!
